Toni Morrison
(February 1, 1931 - August 5, 2019)

California Newsreel joins the world in mourning the passing of Toni Morrison, the Nobel Laureate, literary giant and author of such classic works as Beloved and Song of Solomon. Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am the documentary on Morrison, has recently played in movie theaters. To recognize her life and work, California Newsreel posted two films for free streaming through September 30, 2019. That screening period has ended but you can find information about those films below:

• Sheer Good Fortune - Celebrating Toni Morrison is a documentary produced by the Furious Flower Poetry Center of James Madison University. On October 16, 2012 at Virginia Tech, an historic gathering of writers, artists and scholars read from her work and talked about the magic of her writing.

• In the 1992 series In Black and White, Morrison is profiled and stated in the program featuring her, “American literature is incoherent without the contribution of African Americans.”
