    | The
current situation in the western Sudanese region of Darfur is one of human
crisis. Over 400,000 non-Arab Sudanese have died as a result of ethnic cleansing,
and many more have been displaced from their homes. Click on the resources
below to learn more about the genocide in Darfur and about what you can
      do to help. | "The
best hope for Darfur right now is for the wealthy countries of the West,
like Canada, to do all they can to support the African Union in its efforts
to bring security and stability to Darfur." "The
whole situation [in Darfur] smacks of a repeat of the Rwandan genocide."--
        General Roméo Dallaire,
 Ottawa Citizen, June 2005

ABOUT DARFURUp until now the perilous situation in Darfur has been seen only from
outside the country. Here is a unique opportunity to hear it explained
by eloquent, diverse, even contradictory voices from within Sudan. The
director, of Sudanese heritage herself, talks to ordinary Sudanese in
outdoor tea shops, markets, refugee camps, and living rooms about how
deeply rooted prejudices could suddenly burst into a wild fire of ethnic
violence. Women's stories and their perspectives on history are especially
          given center stage.
