■  CALIFORNIA NEWSREEL DIGITAL LICENSING

This page is designed so instructors and media librarians can easily determine which California Newsreel titles are available for which digital licensing options and from which academic and library streaming services. California Newsreel has worked to obtain digital rights for over 150 of the most widely-used titles from our over 50 years of distributing social change media. Many of these are classics for which no comparable film exists and were in danger of becoming technologically extinct.

■  DIGITAL LICENSING OPTIONS

1) DVD + 3 Year Site/Local Streaming Licenses available only from California Newsreel.  This license includes a DVD (or in the case of the Furious Flower collections a file set) with the right to encode a digital file or request one by submitting back your (Certificate of License) to use in serving videos for 3 years from the purchase date on your institutions password-protected distance learning or streaming platform to registered students, staff and faculty for 3 years from the pruchase. 2) Video-on-Demand / Remote Streaming Subscriptions for individual titles are available through our distribution partners Alexander Street Press and Kanopy Streaming.  Films Media Group offers collections which include California Newsreel titles. Subscriptions should be purchased directly from these content providers which will allow California Newsreel titles to be fully integrated with other subscriptions purchased from these sources. Many Newsreel titles are also included in the large, moving image databases of Films Media Group and Alexander Street Press.  Please note: all titles are not available from all three content providers.

3) Digital Rentals are currently available for a limited number of titles for home, individual student viewing and faculty preview only through Vimeo .  Vimeo rentals do not include public performance or classroom use rights.

In the matrix below, the left-hand column lists all California Newsreel titles currently available for digital delivery. The five columns to the right of these titles correspond with the digital licensing sources outlined above: 1) California Newsreel (DVD + 3 Year Site / Local Streaming Licenses)  2) Films Media Group  3) Alexander Street Press  4) Kanopy Streaming (individual title Video-on-Demand / Remote Streaming Subscriptions)  and  5) Vimeo (Digital Rentals). A  marked box in the matrix indicates that the title to its left is available from the source at the top of its column. By clicking on a marked box you will navigate directly to the page for that title on the website of the particular distributor for the  license, subscription or rental you have chosen; this  in no way commits you to purchasing that  title.
