SANDRA GOVAN


Biography

Sandra Govan is a professor of English at the University of North Carolina Charlotte with a specialty in American and African American literatures. Her areas of specialization include the Harlem Renaissance and African American writer in science fiction. She has scholarly essays included in Erotique Noire, Langston Hughes: The Man, His Art, and His Continuing Influence, Recovered Writers/Recovered Texts, and personal essays in My Soul is a Witness, and Father Songs: Testimonies by African American Sons and Daughters. Since 1994 she has served as the Coordinator of the Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement program. Her proudest accomplishments with McNair are that participants in the summer 1998 program won four awards at the University of Tennessee McNair Scholars' conference and that McNair at UNC Charlotte has placed more than thirty students into graduate schools. She has also been a regular consultant to the North Carolina Humanities Council.
